who is Nick Bradley?

Who is Nick Bradley? We asked him everything you wanted to know!

Nick Bradley is the host of my millennial investor, a podcast where he looks at the latest investing information, trends, markets and news from all over the Internet, so you don't have to. But who is Nick Bradley, really? We asked him some questions to get to know him better - check out his answers below.

how did you find yourself in the world of investing?

When I was in grade 7, we had a citywide paper trading investing challenge in our economics class. I was interested in the challenge. I picked three stocks; Microsoft, Coca-Cola and a company called Tibcosoft. I ended up taking second in the challenge out of 10,000 students. My $50,000 in fake money turned into $110,000 by the end of the year and I was hooked. “What an easy way to make money,” I thought.

what do you do on a daily basis?

I work for a non-profit company in the United States so I am in the office managing the staff four days a week doing budgets, investments, and HR tasks.

what’s your investing strategy?

My smart, investing strategy is dollar cost averaging, buy and hold forever. But I always have a small percentage of my portfolio in more tactically managed, week-to-week options strategies.

how did you find yourself in personal finance podcasting?

Nepotism. I know Glen James (host of my millennial money) pretty well and when he was at my house last, I pitched him an idea and instead of doing that idea, he basically made me take over this podcast.

who would get value from your podcast, my millennial investor?

I think anybody who wants to learn about investing is interested in hearing about famous investors and people looking for new ideas and motivation to continue investing or to get started investing.

is there a book, resource or person that’s inspired you in investing?

The book The Millionaire Next Door by Dr Thomas J. Stanley is my go to personal finance book. I’ve also been impacted by Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. But more recently I have read Atomic Habits by James Clear a few times.

if you could offer 3 pieces of advice to someone who is just starting out in investing, what would you share?

#1 get started as soon as possible

#2  dollar cost average a certain amount every single week into a passive low cost index fund

#3 never stop doing number two

what would you tell 20-year old Nick if you had the chance today?

Buy the dip on Apple! Take out the largest cash advance on a credit card that you can and buy Apple and never sell Apple. On my 20th birthday in 2002 Apple was trading at $.24 per share. $10,000 worth on my birthday is a $5.65 million dollar return today. And to think I wasted money on university instead of buying Apple.

and finally, what’s your favourite sweet or savoury treat?

I know a lot of Australians and none of them like chocolate and peanut butter together so it brings me great joy to say that my favorite treat is a Reese’s peanut butter cup slightly frozen.
